THERES A CLONE OUT THERE!

According to a comment that was posted on my other post (TV-LINKS NOT DEAD!) the TV-links team left the comment:

Tv-Links is back!

Everyone knows that TV-LINKS.CO.UK was one of the greatest site ever created. Just as good as good ol Napster. Now tv-links has finally come back and changed its name to http://www.tv-links.eu. So people that loved or never heard of tv-links now have the second chance to check out what was so great about tv-links. Well enjoy and be happy people! Please spread.

Enjoy here: http://www.tv-links.eu

The tv-links concept seems to have been so successful that others have tried to copy it. We don’t mind competition, we just want you to choose the best.

Regards,

Tv Links Team

If this is true, the http://www.tv-links.cc is a clone of the original tv-links site.

TV-LINKS IS NOT DEAD!!!

The police that arrested the owner of TV-Links (David Rock), couldn’t file anything against him; his servers didn’t have the content on them (Josh, you were wrong!). It simply had links to other websites that had the content. But the website is not www.TV-links.co.uk, but is www.TV-links.cc. TV-Links has also gotten a face lift (As seen below). Adding three new catagories; Sports, Live TV and Divx (high quality).

So, here’s the website; www.TV-links.cc.

Now, I’m going to finish watching War of the Worlds!

Video(s) of the Week: The HOLY SH!T Mix

StealinUrCar06 Is the creator of the HOLY SH!T volume and I take no credit for them. I think these videos have everything in one. The two videos below are my favorites. But here’s a link to StealinUrCar06 to see the entire volume.

Video of the Week Double Feature: DOMINOES!

This one is just weird, and a good way to say goodbye to your old PC’s.

Ahhhh, this one is one that I hope everyone has seen. It’s that miller light commercial from last year. HUMAN DOMINOS!

That’s all for now!

Video(s) of the Week: Gymnastic Bloopers

With this video, I couldn’t stop laughing. Some of those really have got to hurt, though.

This one is short, but it’s the best one I have seen. It’s funny to see the people after the horse falls over to jump in the air, and land in one big pile.

Flatout Demo Impressions

flatout-logo-small2.jpg

I recently got a Steam account, and like Josh has done before, I downloaded a demo off of the store. The demo I got was of the game Flatout. It’s not one of my favorite demos, but it is decent. After downloading it, you can try out three different things: A race on a dirt track, a race on an asphalt track, and a high jump mini game. On the dirt track and asphalt tracks you have nitro, which you gain more of by crashing into other vehicles. Nitro in this game is unrealistic, for it only makes your car go faster. It doesn’t put extra grip on your back tires from the rapid acceleration, which would be far more realistic, but I know that’s the point game-wise.

Also on the dirt track, the physics could have been passed off as an ice track because your car slides around incredibly easily on turns. You have to slow down to about 25mph just to not lose control and fly off the track. On the asphalt, the road traction is much better, and you don’t have to slow down that much to go around corners. Additionally, if you ever run into an object that brings you to a dead stop, your “rag doll” driver goes flying out the windshield. What’s even worse is that you have to manually reset the car once you crash. I don’t know about you, but this gets annoying for me, because by the time you remember to reset, everyone is far ahead of you.

In the racing events, I wished the AI was more aggressive and would try to run you off the track, or make you crash into objects and such. But like in every racing game, there’s always “weak” AI and “strong” AI. The “strong” AI gets ahead of the pack very fast. So to win a race, you have to stick with that “strong” AI car to have a chance to win. The “weak” AI in the Flatout demo is no better then a toddler in a plastic toy car. They drive off the road without the player hitting them; but it is fun to watch them crash into trees.

In the mini game, you have to go off a huge ramp, and tap your nitro button to send your driver flying through the windshield. The goal is to see how high up you can send them. I’m very pleased with how they designed this. Your car starts at an angle, so you have to correct this while gaining speed. Then you have to pass through 2 pillars, with maybe a foot of clearance on each side, before going over a hump and going off the ramp. This makes people have to think twice about what they have to do to get a high jump. If the car was perfectly lined up with no hump, it would be ridiculously easy to get a high score. The hump is very smart because if you go over it petal to the metal, when you land you lose a lot of speed from the impact, so you have to limit your speed while going over the hump. Then you can really throttle it for the real ramp!

Flatout is very unique, but only for its mini-games. There’s some highs and lowss, but it averages out to a good demo in the end.

Computer = TV

*This article is now obselete. TV Links was shut down when its servers were raided and its creator was arrested. For archival purposes this article is being kept up, but take note: THE LINKS ARE DEAD! See this article for information.*

Everyone loves TV shows and movies, but to get them commercial free, you would most likely have to buy them. Not anymore.

You can see all of the red updated markers ^^

TV-Links
is a free website that links to all of the websites around the world that contain movies, TV shows, music videos, movies and documentaries. This website can be very helpful in the eyes of a teacher or a student because of the documentaries. They are all on demand so you don’t have to sit in front of the screen hoping that the documentary you need for a project will be broadcasted. I have already used some of the documentaries to gather information for a school project. I got an “A” on it because I had more than enough information. Sweet! No more going to the library and digging though books with dust in them!

The TV shows section has a lot of shows and is always getting updated franticly. I love “House” but I miss a lot of new episodes. I go on the computer the next day and sure enough, what I missed is there! The music videos section speaks for itself so I won’t bother going into that. But the real question is…

Is it legal?

Websites like this get shot down pretty quickly, in some cases because they don’t watch their wording in the legal section. TV-Link’s legal section lengthy but it states: … just kidding. But if you like reading boring legal stuff it’s here. In summary it says that TV-Links in not responsible for any video that was put on the net. All of the videos are supposed to be legal because in the user agreement new users agree not to post anything illegal. So technically the TV-Links website is all legal because if there is an illegal video on there, it’s not a violation on the site’s part, so they can’t be held responsible.

But nothing is perfect, not even TV-Links. The video quality isn’t always so great. The only exception to this is the videos that play in Windows Media Player. I can expand those to full size and press F11 and the picture looks clear. The other players aren’t so great unless they use about 8 inches on the screen. It varies on how good the uploading quality is, however.

Another flaw is the sections. Most of the upload programs used have a maximum file upload size, so you’ll find yourself changing the window about every half an hour. The final flaw is buffering, but that really matters on your connection and where you’re getting the information from. If you’re getting it from China and you have dial-up, you’ll probably have to let it load overnight.

TV-Links has its flaws but it’s a free alternative to buying movies and TV show series.

I give it a 3.75 out of 5.

See Me, Talk to Me, Touch Me

No, I’m not talking like a stripper… I’m talking like Windows Surface! Microsoft has announced a brand new device that is voice, touch, device and object sensitive. It’s the first of its kind!

Microsoft’s goal is to steal more of your money. No, just kidding, even though that’s what they like to do. Their real goal is to make a device that is natural to the senses. They consider keyboards and mouses unnatural; using your finger to drag, draw and drop things around is a lot more natural. Surface can simplify things to the point that saying a word can transfer pictures from a camera to another camera over a Wi-Fi connection. This  can work with any device that is Wi-Fi capable. From a more casual view, Windows Surface could make its way into a restaurant. Let’s say you set a wine glass on the table’s surface; the database will show you information about the wine that you are drinking and suggest a food pairing to your wine.

That’s crazy! How would a computer be able to identify the wine in a glass? Did I miss the flyer that said they added Wi-Fi to wine? Surface has so many more features that leave people distraught that I could never possibly finish this article. One last thing; Windows Surface is going to cost about $5,000 to $10,000 but more feasible versions will come out within 3 to 5 years for homes. And what about possible games for this platform? I can imagine Solitaire, but something like Crysis or Grand Theft Auto? Sounds too far fetched to go behind making it easier to pay the restaurant bill.

I wonder what’s inside of this thing anyway…  the biggest mystery of this whole thing is how it works. Is it a pipedream or something that’s really usable out there? Whatever it is, we are getting into the future.

Lego Claw Game

I finally finished setting up my claw game in my room. I know the base that’s its sitting on is a little weird, but I’m all about things working without complications.

I had this claw game sitting on a box for about a year now, and I though that it deserved better, after all of the hard work I put into it. This is my 3rd version of the claw games I have built. My first one turned into a big pile of scrap after the rail that the left and right movement section rides on collapsed when it tried to pick up a tennis ball. What I did about this was I doubled the layer of Lego that spanned the 18 inches from left to right. This still wasn’t enough strength and the claw game completely collapsed under the weight. I was pissed and I gave up on the project for a while.

My goal the beginning of this was to have a working claw game and I didn’t have that yet, so after a month or so I continued to work on it. I fixed the heap and that was my 2nd version. My 2nd had a triple layer of bricks spanning the 18 inches. That made it stable enough that I didn’t have to worry about it collapsing anymore. This is where my second version when through hell. For this to be a working claw game I had to program the two RCX’s (the two big yellow things that are facing each other in the first picture) so they know what motors to move when the joystick is moved in a certain direction. The only computer at the time that could run the software was the computer we had in our guest bedroom. The claw game was so big, and it took up a lot of space in there. My dad didn’t like it there so he said I should move it into the basement, but I refused since it was very fragile at the time. So he picks up the platform that it was sitting on and takes it downstairs himself. Unfortunately, he slipped going down the steps because he wasn’t watching where he was going, and he threw it into the air to catch himself on the railing. My creation tumbled onto the floor from 10 feet in the air. It hit the ground with a huge bang; it sounded like a grandfather clock falling over. I was so angry with my dad for moving it, and it was completely destroyed. I might as well start all over again, and that’s what I did.

My 3rd and final version (the version that you see in picture 1) was my last version. This one featured a pattern for the 4 massive studs that kept the whole thing up and a four way claw (picture 2). This is very different from my other claws that where just pincers. This design gave the whole thing a better feel and better chance of winning something. Finally with my last version, I wrote a program that made it fully workable. In addition, this is my only version that had prizes; this is what makes any claw game complete and attractive to those who want to waste time on winning the useless items. The entire thing worked flawlessly; on my luckiest day with it, one try after another. Usually something always goes wrong; it’s mostly the wire that gives power to the motor that makes the claw open and close. It gets in the way of the claw, the claw closes on it, and the entire claw is turned upside-down, which makes the game unusable. If it gets severe enough, it will derail and fall to ground thus destroying it. That’s only happened once so far, but from then on I always have a hand on the power button when I’m playing with it. But other than that it works most of the time. One more note, this version is not one of the scam ones that you find everywhere; the ones where when you drop the claw and it goes over your object it lifts up again and closes it at the same time; that’s how you don’t win anything. But mine closes then lifts up your prize, and drops it in the bucket. Here’s a video of it in action!

This is my best Lego creation yet and I’ll take requests for other ideas that people have. Just contact me at tony971993@sbcgobal.net, but please, no spam or ridiculous ideas like a life size go cart or a car crusher. Thanks!
