See Me, Talk to Me, Touch Me

No, I’m not talking like a stripper… I’m talking like Windows Surface! Microsoft has announced a brand new device that is voice, touch, device and object sensitive. It’s the first of its kind!

Microsoft’s goal is to steal more of your money. No, just kidding, even though that’s what they like to do. Their real goal is to make a device that is natural to the senses. They consider keyboards and mouses unnatural; using your finger to drag, draw and drop things around is a lot more natural. Surface can simplify things to the point that saying a word can transfer pictures from a camera to another camera over a Wi-Fi connection. This  can work with any device that is Wi-Fi capable. From a more casual view, Windows Surface could make its way into a restaurant. Let’s say you set a wine glass on the table’s surface; the database will show you information about the wine that you are drinking and suggest a food pairing to your wine.

That’s crazy! How would a computer be able to identify the wine in a glass? Did I miss the flyer that said they added Wi-Fi to wine? Surface has so many more features that leave people distraught that I could never possibly finish this article. One last thing; Windows Surface is going to cost about $5,000 to $10,000 but more feasible versions will come out within 3 to 5 years for homes. And what about possible games for this platform? I can imagine Solitaire, but something like Crysis or Grand Theft Auto? Sounds too far fetched to go behind making it easier to pay the restaurant bill.

I wonder what’s inside of this thing anyway…  the biggest mystery of this whole thing is how it works. Is it a pipedream or something that’s really usable out there? Whatever it is, we are getting into the future.
